Frankenstein treat boxes

Today I attended Angie's Ustream at Chic n Scratch. She went through and showed us how to make these fun boxes.
Being the frugal person I am with card stock - I was able to make two using one 8 1/2 x 11 piece of card stock (green) and 1/2 sheet of black for the cover/top.
Here is how I did it
Cut 8 1/2" x 11" in half so you have two 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 pieces
Score at 1" on the portrait sides of the piece
Turn and score at 3 1/2" on both ends
clip middles and glue to form a "bag/box

For the top/cover
I cut two piece of black at 3 1/2" x 5 1/5"
score all edges at 1"
Clip and form into a box cover.

Angie showed us how to make eyes:
Using a 3/4" circle punch - punch eye a set up eyes.
Using a 1/2" circle punch - punch a set of pupils (you can use your white pen to highlight the eye as well
For the eye lid - punch one 3/4" circle in green and cut in 1/2. ink and glue all in place.

For the mouth you can use a template as Angie did, but I just drew a "W"
These are going to my two nephews tomorrow, as my sister's family comes to our neighborhood each year as it is safer and you can hit 50+ houses - LOL.

For the bolts - I punch a couple large arrows, folded them at the tip to aid in gluing and drew on the threads.

I am entering in these "not so spooky" fun candy boxes in these challenges.
Paper Playtime - Halloween
For Fun challenge - Halloween - no orange
Frosted Designs - treats

Ode to the MS scoreboard

While it's been a while since I crafted anything as I had to get through over 400 blog posting in my Google Reader library, I made it through and came out with a few challenges that intrigued me.

Using the Midnight Madness sketch - I went with the plain version and took my Martha Stewart Scoreboard and made score lines and frame on the main card and the accent piece.

I recently bought this large intricate MS butterfly punch as well and thought the trio of butterflies would work well on a plain background for the Simon Says challenge. The next was the monochromatic (and one color was ok) at C.R.A.F.T Challenge blog.
Just a sprinkle of MS crystal fine glitter finishes this card off for The ABC Challenge - G is for Glitter.

The inside of my card follows the recipe at The Paper Players, one designer paper (Creative Memories), one sentiment (Sugarloaf Products) and a punch (MS) (I missed this challenge - but it so helped me complete the inside of the card.)

Directions for treat bag

I learned the basic directions on a blog a few weeks bag, I can't find where it was.. when I do - i'll post the source for the bag using a whole sheet of 8 1/2 x 11" cs.

But this one here is one I had a scrap piece of black cs and changed the measurements to fit!
Here they are:
1) start with a 8 1/2" x 9" piece of card stock.
Score the short side at 2" and 7"
2) Turn and score the long side at 1 1/2", 2 1/2", 1 1/2" 2 1/2" and 1"(that equals 9" of the long length) See pic above where I punched the border punch.

3) remove most of the bottom section leaving one of the 2 1/2" section border punched which is your flap. Have the remaining punch piece section for another project!
4) Remove upper right corner only and clip all remaining flaps this is your bottom.

5) add glue to where I have noted. In fact you can write on it - or put an X so you do not glue the wrong sections.

6) Assembled the side (1" to the 1 1/2" sides) to form a square tube
7) Assemble the bottom as with any box.

Decorate the front and use your crop-dial or whole punch to punch two holes to run string or ribbon through.

Believe

This was fun - putting this together I enjoyed the outcome even though as I went along did not know the final finish.... would be.

I kept it simple by using the sketch from Clean & Simple, CSAYL wanted metallic - so I added the snowflake which I make go back and distress to go along with the rest of the vintage feel as requested by Winter Wonderland. (I missed it by a few hours - that's ok I love vintage cards) The color scheme of black, gray and old olive was from ScrapMaster Paradise.

The swirl stamp is from SU in which I used the Versamark ink pad and the perfect pearls again love it as it adds shimmer. The border punch is from MS and you can see some dry embossing with the CB underneath on the black paper.
On the gray paper - I inked the edges with my dark brown Color box chalk ink and did the negative effect of the word believe.
Simple but I think I like it!

Thank you fall card

My friend and I had a lovely lunch today and she treated so I came right home and made her this card.

The front base is embossed using a Sizzix TH embossing folder. I inked with ColorBox Burnt Sienna. Followed the sketch at Card Patterns and added the zig zag ribbon to go along with the Alphabet Challenge blog.
At Crafty Creations they wanted to see red brown and green and For Fun Challenge also wanted to see red brown and cream which certainly went with the Fall Challenge at Crazy4Challenge. I tied it all together with the All Sorts Bingo game challenge and the genre of Thank you and other challenge aspects (embossing, metal, Cricut cut (my rectangles from Wild Card and anything else) can be found at Paper Craft Star.
The twig/leave stamp was stamped in versamark and I used my new Perfect Pearls I got at Die Cuts R Us. I had to buy the Mini Misters today and tried my hand at the new technique - love it!
Added pearls I also got from DCRU.
Oh the stamps and sentiment are from a retired SU set.

Acorns a plenty

After multiple coats of acrylic paint and drying time - I finished the project.
Vase full of painted acorns - I mimic what Mod Podge blog did. If I was to do it again - or if I have the gumption to continue, I would paint some green ones too and gloss them over.

For now this is it. (the ribbon is from Michael's)
I had some glitter spray by Krylon and did a few while I was waiting.... after making a glitter mess (oh my) on my kitchen floor - this was all I got done.

While I wait for the acorns to dry

Yes - I have painted acorns - OMG they take so many coats of paint - I've been up and down the stairs - one coat... next coat. Now I have painted the caps... I can't wait to show you all. I really hope I get done with it tonight. Considering I started at 11:00.... this morning.

So I was reading that this year was a "burst" in the acorns. It was weird - I mentioned early on in the summer.. .Why are there so many acorns in our yard. Mind you the tree is not ours - but our neighbors who decided to cut down all his trees a couple weeks ago in his font yard due to car damage of dropping acorns. You could hear them drop... ting ... ting.. .tang... ok so I digress.

So our back yards meet, and this one tree of his drops so many - you would walk - and ouch step on acorns. I made the mistake one day to hang towels on the line with no sneakers or slippers. Let me tell you painful!!!!

So before our rainfall last night - I went out to the land of plenty (LOL) and gather a few of these treasures. (ha!) and saw a post of Mod Podge blog where they painted them. I thought - great - I got today off from work and want to do some crafting...

Or should I say... waiting for the paint to dry.
Any way - I hope it's done soon as I can't wait to finish.

Gift Card - using Plantin Schoolbook and Cheerful Seasons

This was a fun and simple project.
I cut the gift card holder from PS cart at 3 1/4" using function key Envelope and Tall Ball. Inked the edges and used sturdy tape to keep it closed.
Cut the birdhouse from Cheerful Seasons at 3".
Insert brad and added branches using MS punch.

Mission #673

As a Cricut Card Fairy we get quite a few missions to create for a special child. This mission (673) is for a 7 year old who has cancer and his only wish for his 7th birthday is cards!
I could not wait to create one today. Will be in the mail Tuesday with Monday being a holiday.

I used a new stamp set I bought yesterday at M's Changito is my fav and welcome the thought of using it today for this little boy.

To help me accomplish this card - I used the sketch from Crafty Creations

Michael's coupons for this week

Red Black and White Birthday

Created this for a couple challenges - one at Get Sketchy (sketch) and one at The Paper Players color theme
The stamp is one I have had for a long time, the border is a MS loopy punch and the rhinestones are from Recollection at M's (funny the red looks off in the balloon)
Thanks beejay - she found that Paper Cutz had promoted the red black and white challenge to on their blog.
